TOKYO, September 30 — Air Liquide, the French multinational gas company, has announced a €170 million investment to supply ultra-high purity gases to a leading semiconductor manufacturer in Japan. The move underscores the growing importance of Japan’s semiconductor industry and the role of international partners in supporting its expansion. Under a long-term agreement, Air Liquide will support the expansion of its customer’s existing logic chip production facility.
This partnership reinforces Air Liquide’s position as a premier partner to the local semiconductor industry, which is a cornerstone of Japan’s advanced manufacturing sector. The investment will be used to build, own, and operate several production units to deliver large volumes of ultra-pure nitrogen, oxygen, argon, and hydrogen.
These gases are essential to ensure the ultra-clean and stable environments required for cutting-edge chip manufacturing. The project is located at the core of Japan’s Southern semiconductor hub, a strategic area driving major industrial investments. Air Liquide has been present in Japan since 1907 and has been contributing to the development of Japanese industries for over 100 years.
The company’s deep-rooted presence in the country positions it well to support the continued growth of Japan’s semiconductor sector, which is a key driver of technological innovation in Asia. The expansion of semiconductor manufacturing in Japan has significant implications for the broader Asian technology landscape.
As demand for advanced chips continues to rise, particularly in the fields of computing hardware and electronics, the role of companies like Air Liquide becomes increasingly vital in ensuring the supply chains remain robust and reliable. Looking ahead, the success of this investment will be closely watched by industry stakeholders, as it could set a precedent for similar collaborations in the region. The project also highlights the importance of long-term partnerships in supporting the semiconductor industry’s evolution in the years to come.
