Biotech firm Erasca raises $100M for cancer drug trials

San Diego, March 18 — A clinical-stage biotechnology company focused on a stubborn family of cancer-driving mutations has priced an upsized public stock offering, positioning itself to advance a two-pronged therapeutic strategy through clinical trials. Erasca, founded in 2018 and headquartered in San Diego, announced the pricing of 43,478,261 shares of common stock at $2.30 per share. The offering, upsized from an earlier announced amount, is expected to yield gross proceeds of approximately $100 million before underwriting discounts, commissions, and other expenses.

The transaction is slated to close on or about March 20, 2025, subject to customary closing conditions.

A Pipeline Built on a Critical Signaling Pathway

Erasca’s work targets the RAS/MAPK pathway, a cellular signaling chain that, when mutated, drives many aggressive and treatment-resistant cancers. The pathway has long been a focus of cancer research because its mutations are linked to the growth and spread of major malignancies, including colorectal, non-small cell lung, and pancreatic cancers.

Early efforts to inhibit this pathway faced formidable hurdles due to the complexity of its signaling mechanisms, but advances in molecular biology have enabled more precise interventions, such as the inhibitors in Erasca’s pipeline. The company’s strategy involves hitting the pathway at multiple points simultaneously. Its lead product candidate, ERAS-007, is a RAF dimer inhibitor designed to block a key node in the signaling cascade.

A second candidate, ERAS-601, inhibits SHP2, a protein that sits upstream and helps activate the pathway. Together, the two agents represent a two-pronged attack intended to overcome the resistance that often develops when tumors are treated with single-target therapies.

Both ERAS-007 and ERAS-601 are in development for solid tumors, including cancers of the colorectum, lung, and pancreas.

Financial Fuel from Public Markets

Erasca went public in July 2021, raising approximately $300 million in its initial public offering. As of December 31, 2024, the company held cash, cash equivalents, and marketable securities of approximately $320 million. The March 2025 offering adds roughly $100 million in gross proceeds to that war chest. Erasca intends to use the net proceeds from the latest offering to fund the development of its pipeline, including ERAS-007, ERAS-601, and other preclinical and clinical programs targeting the RAS/MAPK pathway.

The company’s cash position, now bolstered by the new capital, gives it runway to advance those trials. The offering was led by J.P.

Morgan Securities LLC, Jefferies LLC, and Evercore Group L.L.C. as joint book-running managers. Their involvement signals continued Wall Street interest in oncology companies pursuing targeted therapies for hard-to-treat cancers. Erasca’s approach reflects a broader shift in oncology away from traditional treatments like chemotherapy and toward therapies that address the underlying genetic drivers of cancer.

In San Diego, the company’s research teams continue their work on the preclinical and clinical programs. For patients battling colorectal, lung, and pancreatic cancers—tumors that have historically been difficult to treat—that work represents a potential path forward.

No new data from the trials were announced in connection with the offering, and the company’s next milestones are expected to come from the clinic as ERAS-007 and ERAS-601 progress through development.
